Holistic Nutrition Counseling
A sustainable approach to eating and healing
I provide Nutritional counseling that takes into consideration your whole self- giving you effective techniques to manage weight and obtain optimal healing through food. My approach is a blended holistic western and Chinese dietary approach, designed to be individual to you. No one gets the same menu plan.
In sessions with me, you learn not just what to eat, but how to eat to feel sustained, energetic and balanced. You will learn self-care skills that will last you and your family a lifetime.
I approach topics like cravings, balancing blood sugar, metabolism, digestion, gut health and disease prevention and longevity. My approach is about benefiting your entire system and healing the gut- but also making sure that you are inspired by what you are eating. You are an individual, with a whole lifetime of food history- including cultural foods, family history and your own likes and dislikes.
I provide nutritional support for:
- Weight management
- Prenatal and Postnatal
- Early Childhood Nutrition and Immunity
- Low energy and fatigue
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Cardiovascular Health
- Hormone Balancing
I believe that healing nutrition needs to begin with nourishment, vitality and simplicity.
We can try other methods, deprivation diets and expensive complex meals- and they may make us feel good and nurture us for a time, but in the long term, we need a simple holistic solution. At certain times during life when disease or a condition is acute, we may need a more remedial diet. But for most of us, most of the time- we need a well-rounded diet that is not based on fads and draws from all of the food groups.
What does this mean?
I take the time during our first session together to uncover a full picture of your health and who you are as an eater. Sound scary? Don’t worry- there is no judgment here, it is just a collection of information. I look for what road blocks you are coming up against, not just with food, but with lifestyle. I also look for what truly inspires you. I assess imbalances from a Chinese Medicine perspective, through tongue and pulse diagnosis and a thorough medical history.
Eating for Nourishment
Food is emotional, but many clients when they first come in, say that they are eating just for fuel. In order for us to truly assimilate all the benefits of what we are eating, we need to have a connection to ourselves, and to what is on our plate. Family and cultural foods, comfort foods and dishes that you crave again and again are all important. Food should be enjoyable, balanced, and feed our whole body.
Eating for Vitality
I advocate eating the highest quality of food from the best sources that we can afford. This may mean picking and choosing which organic or local we can afford, buying in bulk, or a share and networking with other like-minded people. Higher vitality can be obtained at lesser cost when there is community involvement.
I teach home preparations of typically purchased items- cereals, breads, baked goods, ferments, herbal elixirs and teas.
